Google has decided to remove an Olympics ad for its chatbot Gemini following backlash over its portrayal of a little girl using artificial intelligence to write a fan letter. The ad, called ‘Dear Sydney,’ featured a father asking the AI chatbot to help his daughter write a letter to her favorite athlete, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. While the ad received positive feedback before airing, Google made the decision to phase it out of their Olympics rotation due to the negative response. The company still believes that Gemini can aid in generating writing ideas but emphasizes that AI can never replace human creativity.
